Unique Email Marketing Inspiration
The Inbox Newsletter
Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.
If you think email marketing has to be flashy, packed with product images, or screaming “SALE,” think again.
We’re Not Really Strangers (WNRS) is proof that you don’t…
I’ve been obsessed with this brand recently and wanted to share some examples of their work.
Let’s break down some of their emails and why they work so well.
What Makes WNRS Different?
WNRS doesn’t do email like anyone else:
Minimalist Design: Simple black text on a white background. No distractions.
Emotional Resonance: Their copy feels personal, exactly like a text from a friend.
Subtle CTAs: They sell softly… emotional impact first, promo second.
The result is emails that grab attention, spark introspection, but still drive sales.
Yes, you can spam sales and discounts and make a lot of money quickly.
But WNRS understands the long game.
Lower unsubscribes over time = more revenue over time.
Let’s break down some examples
Example 1: Thought-Provoking Questions
Subject: “Are they good for you?”
Why It Works:
It reads like a journal prompt, not a sales pitch.
It builds trust and emotional connection, positioning WNRS as more than just a brand, they’re part of your personal growth.
It’s not like ANY other emails you may receive from someone.
Example 2: Relatable Problem, Easy Fix
Subject: “I’m tired of doomscrolling too.”
Body:
Why It Works:
Relatable hook (doomscrolling) → Valuable content → Soft CTA.
WNRS sells by helping you feel understood, not pressured.
People like to BUY, but they don’t like to be sold to
Example 3: Emotional Affirmation
Subject: “there’s something you need to hear”
Body:
Why It Works:
The bold statement immediately connects with readers’ emotions.
Only 1-2 sentences
It frames the discount as self-care, not consumerism.
Key Takeaways
You DON’T need to follow what everybody else is doing.
Create your own style, and experiment with the possibilities of your email marketing
Simplicity cuts through the noise.
Emotions sell better than discounts alone.
Soft CTAs resonate better when paired with meaningful messaging

Notes:
This is my favorite email of theirs.
Love how the keep the CTAs small so they’re supposed to seem subtle, but actually stand out a ton given their color.
This brand is just awesome.
