Testimonial Emails That Actually Print

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Today I want to break down some of our best-performing emails of all time.

Testimonial emails.

Most people get these ALLL wrong… let’s explain.

Testimonial Emails

As they sound, testimonial emails are emails that promote one or more reviews from your customers.

You simply CAN NOT send too many testimonial emails…

92% of ecommerce consumers read online reviews and testimonials when considering a purchase.

72% of customers trust a business more after reading a positive review.

Customers who interact with a positive review are 58% more likely to convert.

However, a lot of people get it alllll wrong with testimonial emails.

“You Cannot Bore People Into Buying Your Product” - David Ogilvy

Your testimonial emails have to actually be good and entertaining.

Many of the review emails I look at are lame and list multiple reviews that are super basic.

You can’t bore your customer into a purchase.

You need to actual take time with these emails and picking out content that will grab their attention, keep it, and lead them into a purchase.

Traits of High-Converting Testimonial Emails

The Review is Actually GOOD

Take real time picking out your review(s) you are featuring in your emails. Don’t just take the first one you see.

I’ve done A/B tests on reviews and found some to perform 2x better than others.

We want to find a review that paints a “Rags to Riches” scenario, where a person was struggling with a common pain point, used your product, and is now in the desired outcome.

These are going to be 2x more effective than a base “Good product I like it” review.

You ONLY Include 1-2 Reviews

The modern customer has the attention span of a baby squirrel.

If you throw 4 reviews at them… they won’t read any of them.

However, if you show then 1-2 reviews then they’ll check them out.

Don’t overwhelm the customer…

Give them stuff they will actually read!

Short and Sweet

To build upon the last point, emails need to be short and sweet.

The more you have, the more likely the customer is to leave from overwhelm.

Keep it nice and simple, and easy to click and go to your website.
