My Productivity Guide

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

Focusing less on email today and writing about my productivity system, or whatever you want to call it.

I get asked about this a lot, figured I’d make an email about it.

Background

So I’m 21, I have a full-time team of 17 people at Well Copy, we manage 40+ 7-8 figure accounts right now.

I’m also a full time student, going into my senior year at the University of San Diego.

I also have a very active social life.

I traveled Europe solo all summer this summer and the past 2 weeks I have been couch-surfing frat houses.

Despite all of this, I have record breaking months every month.

I’ve gotten a decent grip on productivity and what works for me to make sure everything not only gets done, but we’re growing.

This is just what works for me.

In Summary

I don’t do anything too crazy like meditation or tanning my balls in the moonlight in the morning.

I just kinda get the work done in batches, prioritizing the beginning of my day to what’s most important and what needs to get done.

Here’s 5 points going over what works for me:

  • First 2-3 hours of every day blocked off for daily needle-moving tasks such as content and marketing assets

  • Don’t eat in morning for max productivity

  • Take calls when I am low on energy to bring me energy

  • Address team and clients in between scheduled calls

  • Finish day with 2-3 hours of needle-moving tasks to leave on a high note

First 2 Hours Of Day

There’s nothing more important than the first 2 hours of my work day.

This is when I’m the most locked in and the most work gets done.

I’m able to get done in this 2 hours what most people wouldn’t be able to do in a full workday since I’ve gotten this down.

I wake up at 5am so I can be up before other people and not be distracted my messages. I’m also on PST time where my team works EST time so I have to make up 3 hours.

I don’t eat breakfast because I am 10x more productive on an empty stomach. Avoids a crash for me.

I don’t go on my phone or any heavy surge of dopamine in the morning.

No checking messages, nothing.

The second I look at my phone or social media my brain craves that dopamine through the rest of the day.

Absolute no and this is non-negotiable.

My first 2-3 hours are open as well, non-negotiable.

These first few hours are for my daily needle-moving tasks.

I have these written out in my notebook as first on the to-do list every day…

  • Write Twitter posts

  • Post in private Skool community

  • Post Instagram slideshow / graphic

  • Write newsletter

  • Create short form video

  • Give YT vid feedback to editor

  • Work sales pipeline

These are what moves the needle.

Mid Morning

At this point my brain is firing and we’ve gotten lots of important things done.

Since my brain is freshly awake I’ll now do what’s really important… putting together guides and YouTube scripts.

I usually have a Zyn to help me out at this time as I am starting to wear off after 3-4 hours of work at my computer.

Whether you are against nicotine or not it helps me put my best content when my initial productivity push is running low.

At least 1-2 hours of long form scripting / content every day is a necessity for me.

After 2 hours my quality on content begins to fade, so I cut it off from there.

Middle of Day

This is where I film content and take calls.

I can’t do calls during my most productive time, I schedule calls for when I am running low on energy because talking to people brings my energy up and forces me to be alive.

My calls will be 11am-3pm every day usually.

Usually 10am or sometime in that window is when I will shoot some content.

Nothing special here… I just eat in whatever gap I have in this time.

I’ll have a diet coke or something for a bit of caffeine to get me through.

End of Day

The last few hours from 2pm/3pm to 5pm I will catch up on needle moving tasks that I wasn’t able to complete in the morning.

Typically this can go to team stuff, systems, giving feedback on content / videos I got help with etc.

A lot of my time recently has been going to hiring, looking through candidates etc.

Nothing crazy… but this is how I’m able to work 10-12 hours every day without any real problems.

Don’t overthink it. Just do the work.

Notes:
This is a special email… as it’s not from a brand, but a member of my private community, Dominic!

I ran an August Design Challenge where everybody who wanted to participate would post an email they made EVERY SINGLE DAY.

This one took the cake as the best email from the challenge…

It’s a bestseller email that’s super creative.

The hero section is unique, using iPhones to show the product PDP page which is more creative than just sticking to plain images like most hero sections have.

The curve in the headline adds life and there's a nice big button at the top!

Product section executed well.

And LOVE the review section with the iPhone... unique and matches the top of the email.

BANGER!

Template of The Day

Hero Section Template #14

This is a great hero section similar to the example email. Nice big button and a way to show off products with life.
