Nobody Talks About This Email Marketing Hack

The Inbox Newsletter
Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.
Ever opened an email that looked like it was from a person and it turned out to be a brand?
That’s the magic of using characters in your marketing.
Whether it’s the founder, an intern, or a customer service rep, these personas add a human touch that radically improves conversions.
Why Using PEOPLE Work in Email Marketing
PEOPLE WANT TO BUY FROM PEOPLE - THEY DON’T WANT TO BUY FROM CORPORATIONS…
Just look at Mr. Beast and Feastables…
People buy his chocolate because of him. Not for Feastables.
We’re noticing this even more going into 2025… and it’s why we see some of the top brands sending emails from actual people.
Adding a face or personality to your emails does two important things:
Builds Trust: Customers trust people more than faceless brands. A relatable persona makes your emails feel personal, not automated.
Drives Engagement: Emails that feel like they’re from a real person often get higher open and click rates.
People relate to stories and personalities.
When your email is “from” someone specific it feels like a conversation, not a sales pitch.
People love to buy, but they don’t want to be sold to.
Examples of Characters You Can Use
The Founder
A message from the founder adds credibility and authenticity.
Example: “Hi, I’m Max, founder of [Brand Name]. When I started this company, I wanted to solve [customer problem]. I’m so excited you’re here.”
The Intern
Great for humor and casual engagement.
Example: “Hey, it’s Emma, the intern. I might’ve accidentally sent this email early, but check out this awesome deal!”
The Customer Service Rep
Perfect for follow-ups and support.
Example: “Hi, I’m Sarah from Customer Happiness. I noticed you left something in your cart—need help deciding?”
The Marketing Manager
Ideal for updates or new launches.
Example: “Hey, I’m James. I’ve got the inside scoop on this week’s bestsellers—check them out before they’re gone!”
The Success Coach
This expert offers tips, advice, and insider knowledge, building trust and showcasing your brand’s authority in the niche.
Example:
“Hi, I’m Olivia, your personal success coach at [Brand Name]. Struggling to stay consistent? Here’s a simple 3-step plan to help you get back on track.”
The Product Designer
A behind-the-scenes character who shares insights about product development, fostering transparency and intrigue.
Example:
“Hi, I’m Leo, the product designer here at [Brand Name]. I wanted to give you an insider look at how we create our bestsellers—starting with the fabric everyone’s raving about.”
The Expert in the Field
This could be a nutritionist, stylist, or other specialist, depending on your niche. They add authority and value by providing niche-specific advice.
Example:
“Hi, I’m Ellie, a nutritionist working with [Brand Name]. Did you know most people don’t get enough protein? Here’s how our products can help you meet your daily goals.”
The Enthusiastic Customer
A fictionalized loyal customer who shares relatable testimonials and recommendations.
Example:
“Hi, I’m Lisa, a long-time fan of [Brand Name]. I just had to share how much I love the new [product]! It’s been a total game-changer for me.”
How to Use Characters Effectively
Be Consistent: Each character should have a distinct tone that aligns with your brand. The CEO might be serious and inspiring, while the intern could be quirky and fun.
Match the Message to the Character: Use the founder for heartfelt notes, the rep for follow-ups, and the intern for lighthearted announcements.
Include a Visual: Add a photo or illustration to make the character feel real and relatable. BONUS - Add a signature.
Segment Your Audience: Pair characters with specific campaigns or customer actions. For example, the founder’s note could welcome new subscribers, while the marketing manager shares sale updates with loyal customers.
