Happy Tuesday!
Max here with The Inbox Newsletter.
No BS, let’s get straight to the topic of today’s email… Mistakes!
Avoid These 5 Klaviyo Email Marketing Mistakes
I’ve been inside over 100 7-figure ecommerce brand Klaviyo accounts.
I run free audits of Klaviyo accounts and see these 5 mistakes all too often that are burning cash every day.
Typically I’ll mention it, offer a solution, and the brand will make an extra few grand the next month.
So let’s get into them.
Mistake #1: Smart Sending Turned On
Smart sending is an auto-selected feature in Klaviyo flow emails meant to limit the amount of emails a customer receives from you in a set period of time.
The default is that if somebody received another email from you in the past 16 hours, the customer will be skipped on the flow email that was supposed to go to them.
We want to turn it OFF for all flow emails.
If someone receives a campaign then abandons a cart from it within 16 hours, they will not receive the email.
Wasted opportunity, burning cash.
To update, go to a Flow email —> Settings —> Smart Sending OFF
Example of smart sending turned on… TURN IT OFF
Mistake #2: Thinking You Have An Added to Cart Flow
75% of brands I audit don’t actually have a Cart Abandon Flow.
They have a Checkout Abandon Flow that is mislabeled as “Cart Abandon” because that’s what Klaviyo defaults as.
You actually need to manually install the added to cart trigger in Shopify to get the event loaded in.
Keep the flow content have, but clone it and switch to an abandoned cart trigger for 2x more abandons revenue 💸
Find out if you already have the trigger by going to Metrics —> Abandoned Cart
If you don't have the trigger - install it on Shopify with this article.
Mistake #3: Sending To Your Whole Email List
Sending to your entire newsletter is a one-way ticket to the spam folder.
Your whole newsletter is full of fake emails, dead profiles, and inboxes with tighter restrictions where you’re ending up in the spam folder no matter what.
If you’re consistently getting sub 35% opens, your reputation will plummet and you’ll continue to land in the spam.
Instead, you want to send to your Engaged lists.
Send to people who have interacted with an email in the last 60-90 days and use this list as your base send.
This will ensure you are only sending to people who want to receive your emails.
Mistake #4: No or Underperforming Pop-Up Form
Pop-up forms are the most important part of your email strategy.
They’re the top of the funnel and they’re how you acquire list members.
Most brands I audit have a form converting 3-4% of site traffic into email subscribers.
Our client average is 10% conversions.
That means about 3x more people entering the email list, and in turn… 3x more revenue.
Mistake #5: Only Sending Sales Emails
Only sending sales emails is the easiest way to create a list that doesn’t care about you.
Sales get boring.
Sending fun, educational, and informational emails is how you get people to continue coming back and opening your emails.
It’s how you build brand loyalty and in turn, exponential sales in return over the long run.
