January Email Strategy Planning

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

New year, new opportunities.

Let’s clear out some winter inventory and set the tone for the year ahead with a banger email campaign strategy.

Email Campaign Calendars

A well put together email campaign calendar ensures your audience stays engaged while driving consistent revenue.

A strategic email calendar will:

Keep your list engaged without overwhelming them…

Provide a balanced mix of value, promotion, and storytelling…

Help build momentum for upcoming product launches and events…

Setting Goals and Strategy

Let’s run through the example of Hydroflask and how I might want to plan their calendar.

There are 4 main goals we want to achieve:

  • Engagement: Reconnect with the audience after the holidays.

  • Revenue: Clear out inventory with promotions.

  • Education: Position Hydro Flask as the go-to brand for style and hydration in the new year.

  • Brand Building: Share user-generated content / highlight eco-friendly goals.

Tips for Execution

  • Balance Frequency: Send ~2-3 emails per week minimum to keep engagement high without fatigue.

  • Segment Your List: Only send emails to active email subscribers, avoid sending to people who haven’t opened in months.

  • A/B Test: Experiment with subject lines, CTAs, and imagery to optimize engagement.

  • Measure and Adjust: Use click rates and revenue data to refine your February calendar.
