I've Generated $20M Through Email

The Inbox Newsletter

Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.

I’ve generated over $20,000,000 through email in the past couple years.

I wanted to run through some of my core philosophies of email marketing.

Hopefully it will save you some time.

Only 3.5 Things Actually Matter

Don’t get caught up in the noise!!!!

My biggest pet peeve is a brand who has so many low hanging fruit in their account but their asking about advanced segmentation and testing.

Lock in the highest levers THEN focus on the advanced stuff.

Here’s all that matters:

High Converting Pop-Up: Shoot for 6% minimum opt in rate. Ideally you want to be at around 10%

Consistent Campaigns: We need to keep our list engaged. Send at minimum two emails per week. In most cases it should be 3-4.

Optimized Base Flows: You don’t need crazy flows. You just need the core ones, and you need them optimized. Core flows are the Welcome Flow, Site Abandon, Browse Abandon, Cart Abandon, Checkout Abandon, and Post Purchase.

0.5 - Deliverability: Potentially the most important, but it’s only a .5 because it’s so easy. Only send to an engaged list of openers in the past 60 days and you’ll be fine.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Everybody says it but nobody actually does it.

When I say simple… I mean SIMPLE.

Less than 100 words per email.

The customer doesn’t want to read an essay and annotate their emails.

They want to get some quick info, they want to learn, they want to be entertained, and they want to see a pretty design.

Your email should only focus on ONE key takeaway.

If you sell coffee some examples of one key takeaway you can create full emails about:

  • Our coffee grounds are extra refined

  • Our coffee doesn’t give you coffee breath

  • Our coffee gives you no caffeine crash

  • Columbian coffee is different for this reason

Email Is Just A Cheap Form of Traffic

Email is just a traffic mechanism.

It’s a way to get people onto your website and shopping.

Treat it this way.

Optimize for clicks, get people on your site and they will purchase.

An email subscriber on your site is 10x more valuable than a cold user on your site.

An email subscriber already knows, likes, and trusts you.

Rather than a cold user who doesn;t know you.

Focus your time on getting people who already know, like, and trust you on your site! (send more emails).

It’s Impossible to Scale Profitably Without Email

Paid ad costs are rising and they aren’t going down.

Cost of Acquisition is the highest it’s ever been.

Sending an email costs a fraction of a cent and it’s towards people who already know like and trust you.

The brands I see scale fast are the ones with a dialed and profitble email backend.

After you have a cheap conversion machine in the backend, it just becomes a game of how much traffic can you push into the machine.

I really want you to focus on the point of “There are only 3.5 things that actually matter”

Stop focusing on all the noise and lock in the basics I mentioned.

We manage high 7-figure brands with 50%+ of revenue coming from email and those 3.5 things are ALL we do.

Do the basics, and do them well.

Email Inspiration Of The Day

Brand:
Hux

Notes:
I love when brands put all of their body copy at the top of the email.

This guarantees that everybody who opens your email will see your copy and CTA.

It’s great to incorporate the copy into the background of the image and have it flow like this email.

Also, the checklist at the bottom is just a beauty.

Super simple and easy email outline that you should send!!

Reply to this email if you have any questions or further content you want covered.

Cheers,

Max
