5 Copywriting Tricks to Improve Email Marketing Conversions

The Inbox Newsletter
Hey it’s Max from The Inbox Newsletter.
Most people overcomplicate copy.
You don’t need fancy words. You don’t need to be a “writer.”
You just need to use words that make people feel something.
Here are five simple phrases that trigger action.
Use them in your emails, ads, and product pages. Watch your conversions go up.
1. “On Us” → Free Without Feeling Cheap
“Free” is a powerful word. But it can also feel low value.
Saying something is “on us” makes it feel like a gift, not a throwaway that is being sent to everybody.
🚫 Before: “Get a free gift with purchase.”
✅ Better: “Your next order? The shipping is on us.”
Same offer. Different perception. One makes you feel like you’re getting a deal. The other makes you feel appreciated.
📌 Where to use it:
Free shipping offers
Bonus gifts
VIP perks
2. “Treat Yourself” → Removes Buyer Guilt
People feel guilty spending money, especially on things they don’t “need.”
So, remove the guilt.
“Treat yourself” gives them permission to buy without feeling bad.
🚫 Bad: “Check out our luxury collection.”
✅ Better: “Go ahead, treat yourself.”
When they see this, they think: “Yeah, I do deserve this.” Boom. Sale.
📌 Where to use it:
Luxury products
Self-care brands
Limited-time promos
3. “Less Than $1 a Day” → Turns Big Costs Into No-Brainers
$365 a year sounds like a lot.
But “less than $1 a day” sounds like pocket change.
People suck at understanding big numbers. But they do understand daily spending.
🚫 Bad: “Our membership costs $365 per year.”
✅ Better: “For less than $1 a day, get unlimited access.”
Now, instead of seeing a big bill, they compare it to spare change. That’s how you make expensive things feel cheap.
📌 Where to use it:
Subscriptions
Payment plans
High-ticket items
4. “Cheaper Than Your Daily Coffee” → Uses Price Anchoring
Want to make your price feel tiny? Compare it to something they already spend money on.
People don’t think twice about a $5 Starbucks habit. Use that.
🚫 Bad: “This costs $29.99 per month.”
✅ Better: “For less than your daily coffee, have better skin all month.”
Now, instead of thinking, “Can I afford this?”, they think, “I spend way more on dumb stuff.”
📌 Where to use it:
Monthly subscriptions
Retargeting ads
Any product under $50
5. “Invest in Yourself” → Turns Spending Into Growth
People don’t want to “spend” money. They want to improve.
That’s why “invest in yourself” is so powerful.
It reframes spending as something that gives them a return.
🚫 Bad: “Buy this online course for $99.”
✅ Better: “Invest in yourself. Learn skills that pay for themselves.”
Now, instead of thinking, “Do I really need this?”, they think, “This will make me better.”
📌 Where to use it:
Education & coaching
High-ticket products
Fitness & self-improvement
These five phrases work because they make buying feel easy, justified, and smart.
Use them. Test them. Watch sales go up.
See you at the top.

Notes:
Love the creativity in this testimonial email!
Instead of just some generic testimonials, they picked a theme and found testimonials that aligned with that.
Added a bit of humor which I love.
